Scott Hall

Scott Oliver Hall (October 20, 1958 - March 14, 2022) was an American professional wrestler. Scott Hall began his wrestling career in 1984 and had his last match in 2016. While his recent in ring work is but a mere figment of the magic he was able to create in the past the longevity of his existence in the business speaks wonders. For a period wrestlers were some of the biggest entertainers. Performing infront of sold out venues not only physically but as wrestling evolved the art involved more work on the microphone. Not only did you need to have a solid wrestling style but you also needed to be able to captivate the audience verbally to really make it to the top.

The Early Years

In his early years Scott Hall teamed with another Future Hall of Famer in Curt Hennig. The two would rise to the top and capture the American Wrestling Association (AWA) World Tag Team Championship. January 18, 1996. Scott Hall credits Curt Hennig for the majority of his success. According to Scott, Curt took him under his wing and showed him the ropes, both in and out of the ring.

Tasting Success

Young Scott Hall as the Diamond Stud.

Scott Hall realized the wrestling world was changing and he needed to adapt. With the help of his friend Dallas Page, he would use this character named the Diamond Stud in 1991 and 1992 during his second tenure at World Championship Wrestling (WCW). Wresling was turning a corner and the presence of gimmicks would be huge for marketing purposes in the world of wrestling. This character would be the prelude to his later work and is what brought the attention of the larger wrestling organizations.

Discovering Razor...Say Hello to The Bad Guy!

Scott Hall would finally get his big break and after years of persistence he was able to audition with the premier wrestling organization at the time which was the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). He would evolve his previous character with heavy influence from the movie Scarface and create Razor Ramon. He would use this character from 1992 until 1996 while in the WWF. Razor was portrayed as a latin tough guy from the mean streets of Miami. This guy was cool, there is no other way to describe it. He worked with many superstars such as Ric Flair, Randy Savage, Bret Hart, & Shawn Michaels. To this day the character Razor Ramon has the sixth longest streak of all time for longest combined days reign of the Intercontinental Championship.

Leaving WWF for WCW and the birth of the New World Order

Scott Hall would leave the WWF and bring his friend Kevin Nash. Together the two would jump ship and join WCW. The pair would then turn the wrestling world upside down by joining with Hulk Hogan. The duo of Hall & Nash left the WWF to sign for more lucrative deals in the WCW. The executives of WCW envisioned a situation in which the new acquisitions did not simply show up to work but rather they went with an invasion situation. With the fact that two of the competitors major stars had expiring contracts at nearly identical times, the WCW conceived an idea to portray that they were being invaded by the competition. With the addition of Hulk Hogan, who had himself worked in the WWF prior to joining the WCW, the fan base really thought a dream situation had occurred. It was very rare that two oppossing companies would have interraction with eachother, especially those in direct competition. The three men created a group called the New World Order (NWO). This group would go on to become the most successful act and group of wrestling history. Record view rates, new highs for merchandise sales, and sold out venues across the country were just part of the measurements of success the organization would experience.

The NWO would revitalize the world of wrestling. Bringing a certain "realness" factor to the genre. By pushing the limits on a weekly basis the organization was able to take wrestling to new heights.

Greatest Tag Team of All Time? The Reign of the Outsiders begins...

Scott Hall and Kevin Nash revolutionized the Wrestling industry in 1996. Scott Hall was searching for ways to increase revenue while still remaining with the WWF but was unable to arrive at an agreement with the CEO of the company, Vince McMahon. Together, the pair of Hall & Nash in search of more money with less days worked decided to switch organizations and joined the WCW. The two would unite to form one of argueable the greatest tag teams of all time, The Outsiders. Not only is the team one of the most successfull tag teams of all time, the pair are credited with reinvigoriating the career of Hulk Hogan.
